Sea Turtle Beach Sarong by Tara Roberts
This mosaic and lace beach sarong celebrates the amazing journey of sea turtle hatchlings. The Tracks of the Turtles Lace sections are interspersed with the Ocean Waves Mosaic stripes and is meant to resemble the imprints that baby sea turtles leave behind on the sandy beach when they are born and make their way from their nests to the safety of the ocean waves.
Sea turtles are large, air-breathing reptiles. While they spend most of their lives at sea in the ocean, sea turtle mothers must come ashore to lay their nests in the sandy beach. An average of 100 eggs are laid in each nest. The hatchlings emerge from the nest all together, usually at night, and immediately make their way to the ocean. When hatching, they are guided by the brightest light, which is usually moonlight reflecting on the water. Sadly, only an estimated one in 1 to 1,000 will survive to adulthood.
